Orlistat Warning?
Orlistat is a kind of diet product that is available mainly by prescription (Xenical) but in some formulas as over-the-counter (Alli). It is intended to reduce the amount of fat your body absorbs from your diet.
Orlistat Ingredients
Orlistat is also known as tetrahydrolipstatin, which works by inhibiting pancreatic lipase which is key in breaking down triglycerides in the intestines. This prevents about 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed.
Long-term studies have shown that about a third of the participants decreased body mass by 5% and less than a fifth decreased body mass by 10%. These are fairly significant results
Common side effects with use of Orlistat or similar products is oily, loose feces and flatulence. (Excuse me while I vomit.) This is due to the excess dietary fat that is excreted undigested into the intestines.
Orlistat Pros
- Significant trial results for some.
Orlistat Cons
- High cost
- Oily feces
- Excess gas
Orlistat Conclusion
If you don’t mind the extremely unpleasant side effects , this product might be for you. Though only less than a fifth of those who have used it in studies have lost significant weight, it still might be worth a try. It is certainly not my first recommendation, but if you want to shell out the extra cash then help yourself.
